[Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL]Relates to non-contact-making switching arrangements for high frequency electricaloscillations. The arrangement comprises a uniform transmission line with distributedinductance and capacity and zero attenuation constant. The length of the line is anintegral number of quarter wave-lengths, and the inner and outer members of the line atone of its ends are connected to the switching terminals. By approaching a conductor ofsuitable capacity close to but not quite in contact with the other end of the line, theimpedance across the switching terminals is caused to approach infinity; when theconductor is removed to a sufficient distance the impedance across the switchingterminals approaches zero.
