摘要：A method of processing an image containing written information according tothe invention includes the step of scanning (20) a surface of an object to obtain an imageof the surface represented by image data, analyzing the image data to determinelocations of one or more regions with written indicia on the surface, where indicia mayinclude logos, stamps, meter marks, alphanumeric information, labels or other distinctivemarks, creating one or more sub-images substantially limited to the dimensions of theindicia-bearing regions, transmitting the sub-images from a first computer or process (21)used to create the sub-images to a second computer or process (22 and 23), and furtheranalyzing the sub-images at the second computer or process, such as OCR, to decode thewritten indicia in the sub-images.
